Highlights from the week

We're finally settling back into our routine after a bumpy week. Silas and Jason were both pretty sick (Silas is sill not over it) and Leo had the final procedure for eye repair that we've been waiting several months for. It went great and looks like his tear ducts are fully functioning. Amazing!
In the middle of it all we got a visit from our friend Ms Janel, who came with bags of dress up clothes, puppets, toys and videos. We had also gotten a few for Christmas do I do believe the kids dress up collection is just about complete. We have a great assortment of girl and boy outfits, animals and representations of various occupations... And enough princess outfits to host a party :)

dress up closet and hat basket

everyone has been enjoying the craft items we got for Christmas

making pipe cleaner creations and sticking them in a box with holes

Elsie is still fussy from teething but the clown and bear her Aunties Joy and Angela made her help out a lot!

The shells collected from our seafood dinner has inspired the kids to learn about marine life... which will be continued next week as well!

Leo practiced cutting and pasting with a seahorse picture

Silas pretended to be a fisherman

Bella cleaned and sorted the shells

And when we have a spare minute, Isabella and I have been working on crafting things for Elsie's nursery!

Farm Christmas!

We had a wonderful evening with our family at The Farm! The kids had so much fun playing with their cousins. They ran and laughed and played games for hours (my pictures were pretty sparse since I was too busy catching up with family!)

Wreath of hands

This morning during school time we made a Christmas wreath of kid handprints. It was a fun activity for everyone. While Bella and I finished up the wreath the boys had fun cutting the paper scraps into tiny pieces. They are both really improving with their cutting skills

Discovery Room

We made our very first visit to the Discovery Room in the St Louis Science Center and we were so impressed! It is an amazing place for children (ok... and for adults too!) There are so many things to explore and great learning opportunities. The best part is that the staff and volunteers are wonderful. They talked and played with the kids and are so genuinely interested in them that the kids warm up to them immediately.
Since a session lasts just 45 min we only made it halfway through the room and we can't wait to go back!

folding washcloths

Leo practiced folding washcloths today. I love when Practical Life activities (as they are called in the Montessori Method) produce real life doing housework is a great thing!

He really enjoyed this activity and liked to see how quickly he could fold each one. He also was excited to figure out that if he folded it diagonally it made a triangle!

Silas was quite tickled by Leo's achievement. He clapped and hollered excitedly each time Leo began folding. All in all it was a great 15 minutes. :)

After being photographed Leo likes to take a turn with the camera...   :)

Christmas celebration #1 !

We have already begun our Christmas parties. But, then again, it seems only fitting that a holiday celebrating the Savior of all mankind should last more than just a day, don't you think? :)

Our first get-together was a two day extravaganza with the Liening family... the immediate family on Saturday and the extended family reunion on Sunday. We had a great time!
