Springtime in Francis Park

Now that the weather is so beautiful we have been trading in the boys nap time for lazy afternoons outdoors. Today we walked down to our neighborhood park and spent a lot of time doing nothing in particular. The kids played for a bit at the playground but when they spotted a huge pile of mulch they left the playground in a hurry. We are blessed to live a few blocks from a gorgeous park. The parks are one of the many perks of living in this city!

Elsie & Harper

What's even cuter than one baby girl? TWO baby girls of course :)

Shaw Nature Reserve

Last week I took the kids to Shaw Nature Reserve, an extension of the Missouri Botanical Gardens. It was a pretty good drive to get there, and I was so glad that I decided to leave when we did since we barely made it home before all three kids came down with a stomach flu that kept them in the bathroom for several days.
But while we were there (happily ignorant of what the afternoon held :) we all had a great time. There was a lot to see, but the lovely lady who worked in the office suggested we start with the kids area. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed in that spot for our entire visit.

Almost crawling

Elsie has been going through such a change recently. She has settled into a good nap routine (finally!) and is REALLY enjoying her food. When she gets in the high chair and sees food coming she starts squealing and flapping her arms. She is a wriggler and it is pretty cute! Tonight at dinner she just kept wiggling her little body and grinning at us, only stopping long enough to stuff some squash in her mouth before she started moving again. She is getting into everything she can with her limited reach (she already ate her first library book), and pulls herself around with an army crawl.
She gets up on all fours, rocking back and forth, and will even go up onto her hands and feet, but she still hasn't figured out how to crawl forward. Oh I can't imagine how much she'll get into once that happens!
The one thing that hasn't changed is the happy temperament that she has had since the beginning. What a precious little girl Miss Elsie is! :)

Hand-me-downs

Five years ago Grandma Peggy gave us this shirt she had worn as a baby... Isabella looked adorable in it and now Elsie gets to model it too. Can you see any resemblance?

Adventures in the park

We have been soaking up the beautiful weather! After our morning school time we took a walk to the park. The kids played on the playground for awhile, then went in search of adventure in "the forest"
Unfortunately, they were spotted by some other little children who suddenly realized what they were missing in life and convinced their moms to let them also enter "the forest". Oops. This seems to happen wherever we go...I try to allow the kids to experience every kind of "nature" opportunity we encounter, but I do find myself in the awkward position of irritating other moms who like to keep their kids ON the sidewalk! :)

Baby scientist

During school time this morning Elsie enjoyed exploring a "science bin". She went through each object; feeling and (of course!) tasting them. I loved watching the wheels in her brain spin! :)
