We haven't begun our school year yet as we are waiting on one piece of our curriculum order that hasn't yet arrived...but the day is rapidly approaching!
It has been good to wait because it's helped us all to realize that we are really ready! Ready for our brains to be stretched...ready for a return to the daily routine...ready for some focused time around the same little table. Just us, no outside interruptions. It will be good. And it will be challenging. But no great thing comes without some effort right? I'm up for the challenge and excited to begin again.
This year Bella is (finally!) officially kindergarten age and Leo is preschool. I decided to start them both on the Saxon kindergarten math program, though, since I believe Leo can handle it just fine. They also will be going through A Reason For Handwriting workbooks, finishing Teach Your Child to Read, and learning about "things with wings" from the science textbook Exploring Creation with Zoology 1. It is a great book that goes well with the Charlotte Mason approach to homeschooling that I follow.
On Monday afternoons we will be having our field days, where we will go outdoors to different locations and observe living things in their natural environment. Bella will keep a field journal where she can illustrate some of the things we find.
Fridays are also a day away from home since we attend CBS (Community Bible Study) for two hours that morning. It is an interdenominational group, where people from all different Christian churches and denominations meet to study God's word together. The kids have their own classes (by age) and they LOVE it. Friday afternoons are filled with stories about what they learned and did at CBS. Such a blessing!
Every other Tuesday evening Bella will attend American Heritage Girls (a Christian version of Girl Scouts). Their first meeting is this coming Tuesday and Bella can't wait. We visited the group in the spring and she has been waiting all summer to join :)
In addition to the homeschooling I am helping plan a wedding in less than three months...Aunt Amy is getting married the end of November and we are all so excited! Needless to say, I'm finding plenty to keep me busy these days. I keep waiting for life to slow down a bit. Maybe it will happen in 2013! ;)
In the meantime we're doing our best to embrace the "now" and glorify God as we live it out day to day.
